Client Spotlight

Updated: Apr 2, 2020

Periodically I want to share a Client Spotlight. Take the time and read about Renee below.

“My yoga journey started in 1987 when a friend convinced me to go with her to a yoga class in New York City. When I walked out, I felt different than I’d ever felt in my life. As I stepped into the street and its lights, colors, and smells - all seemed different, so crisp and so clear. Something significant had shifted, and something opened up inside of me. I felt alive in a whole new way.” Colleen Saidman Yee This perfectly describes the way I felt after I attended my first yoga class. I never practiced yoga until I moved to Nashville in 2014. I was 66 at the time and never was athletic in any way! Some friends from my Church took me to my first class, and I felt exactly the way Colleen described. I was so impressed by how much taller I stood!

When I began practicing with Erica, I feared that this would be the type of yoga I could never do (mental images of me standing on my head)! The first class I attended was the Monday night Slow Yoga Flow. It was a perfect fit for me. I also attended the Restorative and Yin classes. When she started the Lunchtime Yoga, I really grew in my practice. She introduce me to a variety of poses that I had never done, but tried and found I could do them. Because the classes are held at 12:15 for a half hour, I was able to attend regularly. My posture improved, my energy increased and I began to loose weight without dieting! In 2017, I fell at home and ended up with a compression fracture of my ninth thoracic vertebrae. I have never been in so much pain. I did not qualify for the procedure to correct this. I was prescribed a brace to wear, which I hated! When I was released to practice yoga again and went back to restorative class, Erica suggested I try Yoga with Acupuncture. The day after the class, I was able to go through my day without the brace and without pain! This lasted for several days. I attended a couple more group classes and a private class with the focus on my back pain. I now have very little pain in my back. I continue to practice with lunchtime yoga and I am maintaining the improvement in my back and overall well being. The daytime classes work best for me as my husband likes me home for dinners and cooking is another one of my passions! - Renee
